The Self-Care Scam

You’ve been brainwashed. You’ve been told that you need to “practice self-care” to be a healthy, functional adult. This is a lie. A harmful, misleading lie.

Self-care, as it’s been packaged and sold to us, is a form of subtle coercion. It’s a way to make you feel inadequate if you’re not constantly engaging in some form of self-treatment to make yourself better. It turns basic human needs into clinical tasks, transforming simple pleasures into obligations. Putting on makeup isn’t treating anxiety or depression; it’s about feeling good and boosting confidence. This personal choice has been unfairly labeled as “self-care” to fit a specific narrative.

You don’t need to “fix” yourself. You’re not broken. You don’t need to be “cured” or “healed.” You are a complete, whole person, deserving of love and respect, just as you are.

Stop treating yourself like a patient in need of treatment. You’re not a clinical case study. You’re a living, breathing human being with complex emotions, desires, and needs.

Eating, sleeping, and resting are not “self-care” activities. They’re essential for survival. Enjoying hobbies, spending time with loved ones, and indulging in pleasures are not selfish acts; they’re crucial for a fulfilling life.

The concept of “self-care” has been hijacked by the wellness industry, turning it into a lucrative market. You’re not a consumer in need of the latest products or services. You’re an individual with unique preferences and desires.

It’s time to reclaim your power. Stop letting others dictate how you should live your life. You are the expert on your own well-being. Trust your instincts, listen to your body, and do what makes you happy.

Forget about guilt, shame, or obligation. Live life on your terms. Indulge your cravings, take naps, and dance like nobody’s watching. You deserve to feel good. You deserve to relax. You deserve to do whatever the hell you want.

Your worth isn’t measured by your productivity or your ability to maintain a perfect balance. It’s measured by your authenticity, your compassion, and your ability to connect with others on a genuine level.

So, stop trying to fit into a mold. Be yourself, unapologetically. Embrace your quirks, your flaws, and your imperfections. You are enough, exactly as you are.

Now, go forth and conquer the world (or at least your couch) on your own terms.
