Q: I just received my first order of Tonic Tinctures deer antler velvet. I am a little concerned with the label on the bottle, the past brand I have been using has the amount of deer antler extract listed in the supplement facts area, which is 42mg. The Tonic Tincture brand does not list the amount that is in the bottle. Why is this? Shouldn’t I be able to see what amount of the deer antler is in the bottle I purchased? This concerns me because now it makes me feel legally you aren’t allowed to list the amount because it does not contain deer antler extract. Please get back to me and let me know why it does not have the amount of deer antler extract listed in the supplement facts area or anywhere on the bottle.
A: Tonic Tinctures brand Deer Antler Velvet does a 1 pound to 1 quart full-spectrum extraction of a 1:1 extraction ratio which is about 500mgs per dropper for ease-of-use with dosage. This is listed in the upper-right hand corner of the label.
Oftentimes manufactures, retailers, and customers may confuse a dilution tincture of a standardized powder extract that is dissolved into liquid with a simple extraction or full-spectrum extraction. And, confusingly, other times they put their extraction ratio and approximate dose in the supplement facts box.
Dilution tinctures will be able to list the exact amount they dilute in the liquid within the supplement fact box; whereas, simple and full-spectrum extraction tinctures will list a ratio or approximate dose in the literature and/or on the label. We do it this way for clarity and to be transparent that we are not doing a dilution tincture by dissolving powders, but instead a direct extraction into liquid of the raw material.
